How to reach us
Zalakaros is situated in the south-west part of Hungary, in the Balaton Touristic Region, on the edge of the Zala hills. The Zala hills provide the settlement's characteristic environment. Zalakaros, articulated with valleys and hills, can be found in one of the regions receiving the most rainfall in the country, it is characterised by mild, wet, balanced weather, with an annual mean temperature of 10 °C.
How to reach us:
On the road Zalakaros can be reached from several directions.
Highway M7 runs a few kilometres from the city, along which Budapest can be reached in 1.5 hours.
Main roads 75 and 76 lead to the western border via Zalaegerszeg. Lake Balaton can be found 20 kilometres from the city, and can be reached from the directions of both Balatonszentgyörgy and Keszthely.
By rail the city can be reached on the Budapest-Nagykanizsa line up to the village of Zalakomár or Nagykanizsa, from where buses take visitors to Zalakaros operated on the basis of a schedule connected to that of the rail. There is rail traffic also on the Sopron-Szombathely-Nagykanizsa or the Pécs-Kaposvár-Nagykanizsa lines.
Coaches operated all year round provide direct connections between the city and Budapest and many other cities.
The nearest airport can be found 15 km from the city at Sármellék, which is suitable for the reception of smaller private and sports planes, as well as passenger planes. Balaton Airport currently receives charter flights mainly from Germany and Russia.
